Description
Number 10 is a detached house dating from around 1886, designed by Harry B Measures for William Willett and Son, a builder-developer company. The house is constructed of red and grey-blue bricks, with rubbed brick dressings and tile-hanging on the second storey. It has timber windows and a tiled roof. The building is three storeys high, with dormers in the roof. The front façade has an asymmetrical design, characteristic of the Queen Anne style, and includes a slightly projecting central entrance sheltered by a lean-to roof. A square-sided bay window is positioned to the left, connected to a two-storey porch with a pierced parapet and a tall gable featuring plastered coving. Tall chimneys are located on the flanks of the building. The steeply hipped roof has a central dormer with a tile-hung gable. Most windows are casements, and have been modernized. The interior of the house has not been inspected. A low garden wall runs along the front, featuring a plinth, buttresses, and polygonal piers crowned with terracotta finials. The Willett houses in Lyndhurst Gardens represent a cohesive and substantial group.
