Description
Number 16 is a detached house dating from around 1886, designed by Harry B Measures for William Willett and Son, a builder-developer. The house is constructed of red and buff bricks with rubbed brick and terracotta dressings, and has tiled roofs with tall stacks. It is a three-story building with an attic, laid out in an L-shaped, asymmetrical plan, featuring a projecting bay with a gable on the right side. The windows are timber sash windows; those on the upper floors have small panes and are topped with moulded keystones linked by string courses, separated by pilaster strips. The front door is centrally located within a three-bay arrangement, and is set under a pedimented porch with a small-paned top light. A pedimented gable features terracotta ball finials. The interior has not been inspected. A low garden wall runs along the front, incorporating a plinth, buttresses, and polygonal piers topped with terracotta finials. Number 16, along with the other Willett houses in Lyndhurst Gardens, forms a notably cohesive grouping.
