Description

Two pairs of semi-detached villas, built around 1863, stand on the Vale of Health in Camden. They are constructed of stucco and have tiled roofs with projecting eaves featuring carved bargeboards to the gabled front elevations. The architectural style is Gothick, with each villa having three storeys and attics, and a single window facing forward. Each villa has a recessed pointed arch doorway with a hoodmould, above which is a fanlight and a part-glazed panelled door. The windows are recessed casements, with hoodmoulds above. The ground floor and second floor windows have two lights, the first floor windows have three lights, and the attic windows are single lights paired with the neighbouring house under a shared hoodmould. The interiors have not been inspected. Attached cast-iron railings are also part of the property. Number 3 was the home of Rabindranath Tagore, the Indian poet and Nobel Laureate, in 1912, and a commemorative plaque marks this connection.
