Description

Byron Villas Numbers 1 and 2 are a semi-detached house pair dating from approximately 1903, located in the Vale of Health, Camden. The houses are constructed of yellow and red brick with cement dressings, and have a slate roof. They are two storeys high, with a three-window canted bay window extending the full height of the house, and a single-window entrance bay. The entrance features a cement surround to the top half of pilasters, topped by a scroll pediment. It has a recessed doorway with a part-glazed panelled door and fanlight. The recessed sash windows on the upper floors have rectangular patterned glazing, and the first floor windows have shaped brick aprons. The interior has not been inspected. The houses are historically significant as the former home of the writer D.H. Lawrence, who lived there in 1915, a fact commemorated by a plaque from the Greater London Council. They are included on the list primarily due to these historical associations.
