Description
Rose Cottage and Woodbine Cottage are a pair of early 19th-century cottages located in Camden’s Vale of Health. They are weatherboarded with pantiled roofs. Each cottage is two storeys high and features a single window. The main entrances are on the east side. Rose Cottage has a wood trellis verandah supporting the first floor, along with a first-floor balcony featuring a canopy and French windows with architraved surrounds. Woodbine Cottage has French doors on the ground floor, and a first-floor casement window with a pointed light and architraved surround. The interiors have not been inspected. Rose Cottage (formerly known as Hunt Cottage) was the early home from 1870 to 1873 of Alfred and Harold Harmsworth, newspaper tycoons. Woodbine Cottage was the home of Compton Mackenzie and was likely the residence of poet Leigh Hunt in 1821.
