Description
This is a gas lamp post located in the grounds of the Unitarian Chapel, dating from 1861 and restored in the late 20th century. It is made of cast iron and features a battered base with chamfered corners, which is inscribed on one face with 'St J H'. The moulded top supports an octagonal shaft that has decorative rings. At the top of the shaft is an elaborate boss, also known as a 'frog', which holds a single ladder cradle or bar. Above this is a renewed square glazed lantern. This lamp post is a rare example of an early gas lamp.
