Description
A pair of terraced houses dating from the mid-19th century, located on Downshire Hill in Camden. The houses are constructed of stucco and extend over three storeys, with attics and basements.
Number 50 has four windows. A central, prostyle portico features pilaster-jambs, a cornice-head, a patterned fanlight, and a panelled door, all approached by steps with attached cast-iron railings. The ground floor windows are architraved casements; a four-light window is to the left of the porch, and a two-light window with margin glazing and a cast-iron balcony is to the right. The first-floor windows are also architraved casements with console bracketed pediments, margin glazing, and a continuous cast-iron balcony. The right-hand pediment has been replaced by a later architraved four-pane sash. A cornice and blocking course is present, and a 20th-century dormer has been added.
Number 51 features one window and a two-storey recessed entrance extension. It has a doorway with pilasters, a bracketed hood, a fanlight, and a panelled door. The casements are similar to those of Number 50, and the first floor has a two-light window above a pediment. A cornice and blocking course are also present. The interiors were not inspected.
Attached to both houses is a stucco balustrade on a dwarf brick wall enclosing the areas.
