Description

This detached house, now divided into two residences at numbers 22 and 24 Rosslyn Hill, was largely rebuilt in the mid-19th century, incorporating elements of a mid-18th century house. The exterior is constructed from multi-coloured stock brick with decorative bands at the floor levels, topped by a tiled hipped roof with a central chimney stack and a modillion eaves cornice.

Number 22 has a three-storey south-west facing front with a basement, featuring five windows. The central entrance is distinguished by a carved console bracketed hood over a panelled door and patterned overlight. Segmental arches frame the flush-framed sash windows, with exposed boxing. The south-east return, six windows wide, has two windows bricked up and incorporated into number 24; the ground-floor features a bowed bay with gauged red brick flat arches to the sashes. A tablet inscribed "MZR 1702" is positioned above the bay window, believed to be a reused element from elsewhere.

Number 24's south-east facing front is formed from the two left-hand return windows of number 22, matching the style. A bowed bay mirrors the design on the ground floor. A recessed extension, added in 1914, contains the entrance, marked by a gauged red brick segmental arch with a keystone, and a recessed part-glazed panelled door with overlight, reached by steps. A stucco tablet inscribed "WRS May 7th 1702" is positioned above the bay window, and its authenticity is in question.

The interiors of both properties were not inspected, but are noted to contain a panelled hall and staircase with a closed string and turned balusters.
