Description

This is a detached studio house, now divided into three separate dwellings at Numbers 5, 5A, and 5B. It was built in 1879 by Batterbury & Huxley. The house is constructed of red brick with decorative moulded brickwork defining the first-floor level. It has a tiled hipped roof with projecting eaves, a decorative cornice, tall chimney stacks and three hipped dormers. The building is two storeys high with attic accommodation and has a double-fronted facade with five windows. A central timber doorcase, round-arched with a keystone and pilasters, supports a pediment, and contains a panelled door with a patterned fanlight above. The windows have slightly recessed sash windows with flat arches of gauged brick, with the ground-floor arches having undulating bases. A central first-floor arch is keystone dated 1879. The interior has not been inspected. Attached to the property is a low brick wall with a stone cap, cast-iron railings, and a gate with an overthrow. This is an example of group value, reflecting its contribution to the character of the area.
