Description

Hampstead Road Bridge over the Grand Union Canal is a public road bridge built in 1876, replacing an earlier brick bridge from around 1815 that was deemed inadequate. It was provided by the St Pancras Vestry and the Metropolitan Board of Works. The bridge features a slightly cambered cast-iron girder design, with cast-iron panelled parapets that have relief moulded rectangles. Similar parapets on the bridge deck create pedestrian walkways. The bridge is supported by brick abutments topped with stone coping. A stone plaque on the north-east abutment commemorates the rebuilding of the bridge.
