The tomb of Mary Wollstonecraft, William Godwin, and Mary Jane Godwin is a pedestal tomb located in St Pancras Old Church Gardens. It dates from the late 18th century and is made of Portland stone. The tomb is square in shape and features a moulded rectangular base. The central part of the pedestal, known as the die, was carefully reinstated with new lettering in 1992. On the west face, it reads: ‘MARY WOLLSTONECRAFT GODWIN Author of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman born 27th April 1750 Died 10th September 1797’. The south face states: ‘WILLIAM GODWIN author of Political Justice born 3rd March 1756 Died 7th April 1836 Aged 80 years’. The east face commemorates: ‘MARY JANE Second Wife of WILLIAM GODWIN Died 17th June 1841 Aged 75 years’.
