Description

The Church of St Peter is a church dating from approximately 1858-9, designed by W Mumford, with a tower and chancel added by JP St Aubyn, and restored in 1927. It is constructed of Kentish ragstone, squared rubble with fine stone dressings, and has tiled roofs. The church comprises a 5-bay aisled nave with a clerestory, short transepts, and a northern chapel. A south-western tower features a main entrance, angle buttresses, pointed belfry openings, clock faces, and a crenellated parapet. The west end has a gabled design with a 5-light traceried window, while the aisles feature gabled window bays. The transepts are gabled with 3-light traceried windows, and the east end presents a gabled design with a 5-light traceried window. Internally, the church has an arch braced king post roof supported by carved angel corbels, a galleried west bay, and painted choir stalls. Stained glass windows by O’Connor are found in the east and west windows.
