Description
A terrace of seven houses built around 1827-32 by W Forrester Bray, and subsequently altered. The houses are constructed of yellow stock brick, with the ground floor of number 1 rendered in stucco, and the ground floor of number 6 painted with rusticated stucco. A plain stucco sill band runs across the first floor.
The houses are three storeys high with basements, and numbers 1, 5, and 6 have attic dormers. Numbers 1 and 7 have three windows each, while numbers 2 to 6 have two windows each. Ground floor openings are round-arched. The doorways of numbers 1, 2, and 4 feature fanlights and panelled doors; the doorway of number 3 has been converted into a window. The doorways of numbers 5 and 6 have fluted quarter Doric columns supporting cornice heads, with fanlights (the fanlight of number 6 being patterned) and panelled doors. Number 7’s doorway has a stucco surround with pilaster-jambs carrying a cornice head and fanlight. Number 1 includes a mews entrance. Recessed sash windows are set within gauged brick flat arches. The first-floor windows of numbers 5 and 7 are accompanied by cast-iron balconies; number 5 also has a wrought-iron sign bracket. The houses have parapets.
The interiors were not inspected. Attached cast-iron railings, topped with mostly bud finials, are present.
