Description
A pair of houses built in 1937-8 by Ernst L Freud. The houses are constructed of buff brick with stone copings and have flat roofs. They are two and three storeys high, built on a sloping site with a slightly raised central section. The upper floor of number 1 is set back behind a roof terrace. Projecting porches are supported by single piloti, with the porch to number 2 positioned to the side. Number 2 retains its original metal casement windows; the ground floor windows are three- and four-light with vertical glazing bars, and the upper windows are tripartite with horizontal glazing bars in the side windows. Number 1 has windows of a similar design, but these have been replaced with aluminium. The interiors have not been inspected. Walls of matching brick, stepped to accord with the rising land towards Frognal Close, form a key part of the overall design. They create a symmetrical composition with numbers 5 and 6 across the road.
