Description

A pair of houses located in Castle Street, Buckingham, built in the mid to late 18th century and altered in the 19th century. The houses are constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with some flared headers, and have a plain-tile roof topped by a brick ridge stack. Number 7 has a single-unit plan, while number 6 has a two-unit plan. The houses are two storeys and have an attic, with a four-window facade.

Number 6 features a six-panel door, centrally located to the right, with a moulded wooden surround, a leaded overlight, and a straight dentilled hood supported by shaped brackets. It is approached by three stone steps and flanked by 19th-century canted bay windows. Number 7 has an eight-panel door to the far left, approached by four stone steps, with glazed upper panels, a reeded wooden surround with paterae at the top corners, panelled reveals, a straight hood on shaped brackets. A twelve-pane sash window to the ground floor, right of the door, has a flat-arched head and a stone key block. All first-floor windows are twelve-pane sashes with moulded wooden surrounds and flat-arched heads, with the exception of the window to the far left, which has a wooden lintel. A rendered plinth is present with a two-light cellar window to number 7. The building also includes a storey band and dentilled brick eaves. Four hipped roof dormer windows, each with a two-light casement, top the structure; those over number 6 contain small leaded panes of old crown glass. The interior details were not inspected.
