Description
This is an early 19th century pair of houses, numbers 43 and 45 Effra Road. They are each three storeys and have a basement, with two windows in the main block. One house has a two-storey and basement entrance extension, stepped back in two sections. The houses are built of stock brick with a stone-coped parapet and cornices and a blocking course to the wings. The basements are stuccoed. Number 45 features a banded stuccoed ground floor, forming voussoirs around round-arched window recesses. Number 43 has segmental ground floor recesses. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars above, and long casements with transoms on the ground floor, all with gauged brick arches. Number 45 has moulded architraves on the second floor, panelled pilasters and bracketed entablatures on the first floor. Cast iron window guards protect the ground floor windows. Six steps lead to a prostyle Doric porch. Number 43 has a patterned fanlight above a six-panel door and ornamental cast iron balconies on the first floor.
