Description

Stour House is an early 16th-century timber-framed and plastered house located on Stoke Road in Clare. It has two storeys, with the upper storey jettied on a carved bressumer featuring weather-worn vine ornamentation and exposed timber-framing. The house was likely extended at the northeast end during the 17th century. The windows are double-hung sashes from the 18th or early 19th century, complete with glazing bars and set in cased frames. On the ground storey, a six-panel door is flanked by three-light bay windows. At the rear, there is a wing with mullioned and transomed casement windows that have leaded lights. The roof is thatched. Inside, the house features exposed framing and moulded beams.
