Description
The White House is an 18th-century timber-framed and plastered house located on the south-east side of Nethergate Street in Clare. It is two storeys high with attics and features a seven-window range of double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The entrance boasts an eight-panel door with raised and fielded panels, where the upper panels are glazed. This door is framed by a wood doorcase with plain Tuscan columns and a pediment. At the rear, three gabled wings project, and there is a stable wing extending from the north end, which is also gabled at the front and attached to the main block. The stable wing is one storey high with attics and includes double-hung sash and casement windows with glazing bars, as well as a four-panel door. The roofs of the building are tiled. The White House is part of a group with Nos 1 to 9 (consecutive) on the north-west side of Nethergate Street and all the listed buildings on the south side of Well Lane.
