Description

Endings is a house dating from the early 16th century. It has one-and-a-half storeys and a basic three-cell plan. The building is timber-framed and rendered, topped with a thatched roof. There are three 20th-century three-light casement windows with a single bar on the ground storey, along with three gabled dormers featuring two-light single-bar casement windows. A 20th-century plank door provides the entrance.

Inside, there is an internal chimney stack with a plain red brick shaft, as well as two end chimney stacks. The timber framing is exposed, showing some replacement studding and housings for diamond-mullions. In the main two-bay room, there is a plain, heavy ceiling with joists set flat, while the upper room shows signs of alterations, including a removed tie-beam and brace. This ceiling may have been added later.

In the partition wall to the south, there are remains of a blocked arched doorway and indications of another doorway. The one-bay room at the south end has thin joists set on edge, which may be a replacement or later insertion. All ceilings in the house are very low. At the north end, an 18th-century bay was added, obscuring the original gable end, but the upper part of the gable is still visible inside, featuring remains of 17th-century roughcast and pargetting with three panels displaying a 'tree of life' motif and part of a roundel.
