Description
High Gables is a former farmhouse dated 'JB' over 1804, located on Hopton High Street. The building is two storeys tall, featuring red brick on the front and sides, with knapped flint at the rear. It has a thatched roof adorned with a decorated ridge and a wooden modillion cornice. The gables are tumbled with high, plain copings that incorporate chimney-stacks. The facade includes a range of three late 19th-century sash windows, each with a single vertical bar in the lights. The central entrance features an Edwardian four-panelled door, which has ornamental coloured glazing in the upper lights. This door is set within an older surround that includes an eared architrave, a triangular pediment with dentils, and a frieze of carved 15th-century cresting, likely taken from the church during a 19th-century restoration. Inside, there is an original curved staircase with plain balusters and a sinuous handrail.
