Description

Tollgate is a house dating from the 16th century, featuring one-and-a-half storeys and a three-cell plan. It is positioned sideways to the road and constructed with a timber frame that is rendered, topped with a thatched roof. An internal chimney stack has a plain red brick shaft. On both the east and west sides, there are similar 19th-century single-storey lean-to extensions made of brick and flint, each with pantiled roofs. To the north, there is a later 20th-century flat-roofed extension that contains a kitchen. The house has 19th-century two-light casement windows with a single bar to the lights, along with some 20th-century replacements and eyebrow dormers. Inside, there is good-quality timbering exposed.
