Description
Chapel Cottage is a building that was originally the Chapel of St Mary Magdalene, dating from around 1190. It was converted into a house shortly after its dissolution in 1550. The structure is made of flint rubble with stone quoins and has one storey with attics. There are remnants of original windows that have been blocked. On the north side, there is a 12th-century semi-circular arched doorway featuring capitals, although the shafts are missing. Inside the archway, there is a 13th-century pointed arch. The roof is thatched on the north side and covered with 20th-century interlocking tiles on the south. A moulded brick base of a Tudor shafted chimney stack is present, with rebuilt square shafts. The interior showcases heavy timber-framing, with main beams that have broad chamfers and carved stops. One beam features embattled ornamentation.
