Description

The Red Lion Inn is a 17th-century timber-framed and plastered house that was refronted in the 19th century, partly in red brick. The north end features one window range that is timber-framed and plastered. The building has two storeys and a four-window range with double-hung sashes that include glazing bars, all set in painted reveals. A six-panel door is adorned with deep reveals, narrow pilasters, and a cornice hood. The roof is covered with slate. The inn is mentioned in the probate inventory of John Turpin, a notable brewer and baker from Clare, in 1688. The Red Lion Inn is part of a group that includes Nos 30 to 34, 37 to 44, and Nos 46 to 48, along with Nos 1 to 8 and Nos 13 to 15.
