Description

The Maltings is a late 15th century timber-framed building located on the west side of Callis Street in Clare. Originally the Old Guildhall, it features exposed timber framing and is the surviving part of a larger hall-house that once had two cross wings. The building has two storeys and attics. The gabled east end displays a jettied upper storey supported by exposed joists with shaped ends, along with cut and shaped bargeboards, added in the 20th century. It has one window range consisting of mullioned and transomed casements with leaded lights. The attic is illuminated by small casement windows with lattice leaded lights in the gable. A gabled porch with cut and shaped bargeboards extends from the north side, and remnants of old windows can still be seen. The roof is tiled. All the listed buildings on Callis Street are part of a group.
