Description
Brookside is a timber-framed and plastered building dating from the 16th to 17th century, which was refronted and altered in the early 19th century. Until 1820, it was recorded as two tenements in the records of the Duchy of Lancaster. The building has two storeys and features a four-window range on the west front, with double-hung sashes that have glazing bars, set in flush cased frames with shallow hoods and louvred shutters. A Tuscan portico with plain columns and a cornice projects from the front, which includes a 20th-century door. At the rear, gabled wings project from the main structure. The roof is hipped and covered with slate. Inside, some timber-framing is exposed. All the listed buildings on Callis Street are part of a group.
