Description
49 College Street is a house with a late 17th century core that was altered and given a new front in the early 19th century. It has a timber frame that is rendered, and a plain tiled roof with a wide eaves cornice, while the lower courses on the rear slope are covered with slate. The building has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, along with two extensions at the rear. There are two gable-end chimney stacks with plain red brick shafts. The central door features six raised fielded panels and is set in a doorcase with reeded pilasters, a Greek key pattern frieze, and a cornice. A dormer window is located in the rear slope of the main roof. Inside, the house has been largely updated in the Georgian style, featuring a plain early 19th century winder stair. The ground storey framing is covered, but there are signs that the roof, which has clasped side purlins, has been raised.
