Description
Red Barton is a house with a late 16th century to early 17th century core, featuring later alterations. It has two storeys and attics, designed in a two-cell lobby-entrance layout. The structure is timber-framed, with the front and south gable wall faced in 18th century red brick, using English Bond for the ground floor and Flemish Bond above, characterized by thick mortar joints. The roof is covered with clay pantiles, and there is an internal chimney stack with a plain red brick shaft.
On the ground floor front, there are two early 19th century 3-light windows, which are mullion-and-transom type with narrow glazing bars, pintle hinges, and segmental arches to the frames and surrounds. Above, there are three 2-light replacement casement windows from the 20th century. The south gable features a 2-light small-paned casement window on each floor. At the rear wall, there is one original 3-light window at first floor level, which has hollow-chamfer moulding on the mullions. Additionally, there is a later single-storey lean-to on the north side.
