Description

St. George's is a house dating from the 16th and early 17th centuries. It has two storeys and attics, featuring an L-shaped layout with a main range and a cross-wing. The building is timber-framed and rendered, with the ground floor of the wing constructed from whitewashed brick and a roof covered in plain tiles. The main range includes an internal chimney stack with a plain red brick shaft and a later red brick gable end with a chimney stack. There is also a brick lean-to extension at the back of the wing.

The house has various casement windows, including two on the rear wall with old diamond-leaded panes and two with square-leaded panes. In the main range, there is an ovolo-moulded mullioned window near the stack, and in the upper part of the cross-wing gable, there is a window with ovolo-moulded mullions and small side-lights. Evidence suggests there were similar windows on the ground floor.

The cross-wing is the earlier section and has been shortened. It features ovolo-moulded main beams and joists on the ground floor, with curved stops adorned with jewels and a moulded lintel above the open fireplace. In the main range, the joists are set on edge. Both ranges have similar side purlin roofs, with principal rafters that are not diminished but cut away to accommodate clasped purlins. Additionally, there is a lower row of unstepped butt purlins, windbraces, and intermediate collars between the trusses.
