Description
No. 48 Crown Street is a house that has been divided into flats. It dates from the 18th century, with a front added in the mid-19th century, and has been extended and significantly modernised in 1970 and 1971. The building is timber-framed and faced with white brick, topped by a slated mansard roof that has a plain parapet and a brick band.
The exterior features two storeys, a cellar, and attics. There is a sash window with a single vertical glazing bar on both the ground and first storeys, set in flush cased frames with flat gauged arches and projecting sills. A flat-headed lead-covered dormer is located on the lower slope of the roof, featuring an 8-pane window. The entrance includes a six-panelled door with raised fielded panels, situated in panelled reveals and accessed by three stone steps. The doorcase has moulded architraves, a dentil cornice on brackets, and a plain rectangular fanlight. The interior does not retain any exposed original features.
