Description
The Three Kings Public House and attached Manor House stable block is a building dating from the early to mid 17th century. It stands two storeys high with attics and features a three-cell lobby-entrance plan across seven bays. The structure is timber-framed and roughcast, topped with 20th-century plain tiles. Inside, there is an internal chimney stack with a plain red brick shaft.
The ground floor includes three Edwardian small-paned tripartite sash windows, while the upper storey has three single sash windows with vertical bars only. There are two matching half-glazed doors, one of which is blocked, each with identical doorcases that have panelled sides and a flat pediment supported by scrolled wrought-iron brackets.
Inside, the room immediately east of the chimney stack features an exposed timber ceiling with joists set on edge, while the room above has a ceiling of similar quality with joists set flat, which is an unusual combination. The two rooms to the east of the stack have been combined into one. A staircase is located beside the chimney stack, and the side purlin roof is plastered within the attics. Several upper doors are made from reused Jacobean panelling, with one door featuring cock's head hinges.
Adjoining the east end of the building is a mid-19th century crosswing constructed of flint and red brick, with weatherboarding on the upper part of the gable and an upper door, likely serving as a granary or hayloft. This section serves as the stable block for the Manor House and includes a double doorway and various stable doors facing east. The Manor House itself is not included in this listing.
