Description
Pen Rwendell, also known as Twitchett's End, is a row of four cottages, now functioning as two, dating from the 18th century. The cottages are one-and-a-half storeys tall, constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with a thatched roof. They feature two internal chimney stacks with large plain red brick shafts.
The building includes four 2-light casement windows and four eyebrow dormers, all equipped with old cast-iron frames, latches, pintle hinges, and diamond-leaded panes, which appear to be the original windows, making them an unusual survival. At each end of the front, there is a 20th-century plank door, each sheltered by a small thatched conical porch roof.
Inside, the ground storey has exposed ceilings with chamfered main beams and narrow joists set on edge. The cottages were built on a generous scale, and the long frontage showcases an early and high-quality example of a purpose-built cottage row.
