Description
The stable to the Pickerel Inn is an ornate late 16th-century stable block located in the yard behind the inn. It has two storeys, with a brick ground floor that is whitewashed across the front. The upper floor is timber-framed and features herringbone-pattern brick nogging and short tension braces. The gable ends are crow-stepped and have moulded brick corbels at the first floor. The upper part of the rear wall is weatherboarded, and the roof is covered with plain tiles. There is a wide central doorway with a four-centred arch, and large 20th-century garage doors are situated on the right. On the upper floor, there is one blocked original window and two later doorways. This stable block is similar in style to the late 16th or early 17th-century stable block at Blythburgh Lodge, which has an even more elaborate design.
