Description
61 and 62 College Street is a former public house, known as The Golden Fleece, which has been converted into a shop with living accommodation above. It dates from the early 19th century but has an older core. The building is timber-framed with roughcast render and applied mock timbering, topped with a plaintiled roof featuring a plain wooden eaves soffit.
The structure has two storeys and is located on a corner site, displaying irregular fenestration. On the first storey facing College Street, there are two sash windows without glazing bars, one two-light small-paned casement window, and one single-light four-pane casement window. The ground storey features two sashes with clear glass and two six-panelled doors in plain surrounds, all of which are in flush cased frames.
A late 19th-century shop front curves around the corner, with windows facing both streets and a corner entrance. This shop front includes a three-light and a two-light window on each side, with vertical glazing bars and dividing pilasters. It also has a fully-glazed door with a rectangular fanlight, a plain fascia, and a heavy moulded cornice supported by carved console brackets. The interior has not been inspected.
