Description
46 Churchgate Street is a shop that was formerly a shop and house, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, with an early 19th-century front. The building is timber-framed and rendered, featuring plaintiles on the front range and pantiles on the rear. It has two storeys and attics, with a T-shaped plan that includes a rear wing.
The exterior showcases a plain stucco parapet with the name 'Bloomfields' displayed prominently across it. There are two sash windows on the first storey, each with a single vertical bar in flush cased frames. The ground storey features a double shop front with a recessed central door, plain end pilasters, and a plain fascia topped with a heavy projecting moulded cornice. The roof of the rear range is slightly higher than that of the front and is linked to the front roof slope.
Inside, the space has low ceilings and is divided into two bays, although most of the timbers are covered. The attics are not easily accessible. The rear range is divided into two separate halves, each containing the remains of a corner fireplace.
