The surviving part of the town workhouse, formerly containing the men's ward, workshops for shoe-making, tailoring and carpentry, the boys' school and the mortuary. Now a builder's store. Early to mid C19; used as part of the workhouse until 1884. In kidney flint with red brick quoins and dressings and a high cement-rendered plinth; part of the walls at the west end have been renewed in C20 brick; pantiled roofs. 2 storeys; set sideways-on with the gable end rising straight from the street. A range of 12 much-altered windows: some small-paned sashes, some large-pane, some blanks, and on the ground storey some replacement casements of various dates. 2 loft doors. INTERIOR: not inspected.
