Description
60 College Street is a former part of the town workhouse, which included the men's ward, workshops for shoe-making, tailoring, carpentry, the boys' school, and the mortuary. It dates from the early to mid 19th century and was used as part of the workhouse until 1884. The building is constructed of kidney flint with red brick quoins and dressings, and features a high cement-rendered plinth. Some walls at the west end have been replaced with 20th-century brick. The roof is pantiled. The structure is two storeys high and is oriented sideways, with the gable end rising directly from the street. It has a range of 12 windows that have been much altered, including some small-paned sashes, some large-pane, some blank spaces, and on the ground floor, various replacement casements. There are also two loft doors. The interior has not been inspected.
