Description
14 Hatter Street is a house and shop, now functioning as a shop and store. It dates from the 17th century and has undergone later alterations. The building features a timber frame and roughcast render, with a slate roof on the front range and plain tiles on the rear.
The structure is three storeys tall and includes a cellar, with an L-shaped plan. It has an internal chimney stack that connects the front and rear ranges, which were built at different times. The facade has two window ranges: the first storey features 12-pane sash windows in flush cased frames, while the top storey has narrow 6-pane sashes. The ground storey displays a 19th-century shop front, and the fittings for a sunblind are still present.
Inside, the interior has been altered in a Georgian style, with boxed-in beams, and the top storey was added later. The rear range consists of three distinct structural sections, with two being timber-framed and one constructed of 19th-century brick. Additionally, there is a small-paned sliding sash window on the ground storey.
