Description

No 1 Chippenham Road is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and an extension added in the early 19th century. It has one-and-a-half storeys and attics, featuring a three-cell cross-passage entrance plan. The building is timber-framed and rendered, topped with a plaintiled roof that includes a plaintiled gabled dormer and an axial chimney made of red brick. The early 19th-century small-pane sash windows are adorned with architraves. The entrance door is a four-panelled design, partly glazed, and is sheltered by a flat canopy supported by carved brackets. An early 19th-century rear wing faces Chippenham Road. Inside, the hall and parlour are heated by back-to-back open fireplaces, and the roof features clasped purlins.
