Description
The Pack Horse Bridge over the River Kennett is a bridge dating from the late medieval period, believed to be from the early 15th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. It features four pointed arches, each spanning approximately 2.5 meters, with a cut-water between each arch. The pathway is 1.2 meters wide and is bordered by parapets that are swept out at both ends. The bridge is constructed from flint rubble, with some brick repairs. The soffits and arches are made of brick, with the earlier work in splayed red brick and extensive repairs likely from the 18th century in gault brick. The dressings below the arch springing points are made of splayed limestone blocks. The bridge is also recognized as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, No. 17.
