Description

Nos 16 to 19 The Street is an early 17th century range of houses that are timber-framed and plastered. The buildings have been altered in the 18th century and later. They are arranged in an L-shaped plan with wings extending to the north and west. The west wing features a jettied upper storey and a jettied gable, which retains carved bargeboards and a moulded bressumer inscribed with the date 1608. The jetties are supported by console brackets. Nos 18 and 19 display 20th-century pargetting in panels. The houses are two storeys tall. Nos 16 and 17 have double-hung sash windows with glazing bars set in flush cased frames, while Nos 18 and 19 have casement windows, some of which include leaded lights. The doors are boarded. The roofs are tiled and there are two 17th-century chimney stacks; one features two octagonal shafts on a rectangular base, and the other has diagonal shafts. All the listed buildings in The Street, along with Green Farmhouse on The Green (Lower), form a group.
