Description

Cemetery Lodge, built in 1855 by Mr. Peck of Cooper & Peck, is located on King's Road in Bury St Edmunds. The lodge is constructed from random irregularly shaped blocks of Kentish ragstone, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, with plaintiles and ornamental ridge-tiles on the roof. It has three external stacks with plain narrow rectangular white brick shafts and is designed in the Gothic style.

The building is one-and-a-half storeys high and has an irregular form, with gables facing east and south. Each gable features pointed Gothic windows with cusped heads, with three-light windows on the ground storey and two-light windows above. On the west side, there is a three-light window with plain mullions set in a steeply-roofed gablet, as well as a three-light ground storey window in Tudor style with shouldered heads to the lights. The entrance door is set within a pointed arch. At the south-east corner, there is a buttress topped with a steeply gabled design in the style of the 14th century. Additionally, there is a single-storey range in a matching style along part of the east side. The interior has not been inspected.
