Description

Commerce House, located on the south side of Well Lane in Clare, is a 17th century timber-framed and plastered house featuring three gables at the rear. The building has undergone significant alterations in the 19th century and was renovated in the 20th century. It stands two storeys tall and has a three-window range with double-hung sashes that include glazing bars, all set in cased frames; two of the windows are three-light. The ground storey showcases a 19th-century shopfront complete with pilasters and a cornice, along with a small 20th-century shop window. The roof is tiled. Commerce House is part of a group of listed buildings that includes Nos 1 to 8 Well Lane, No 31 Church Street, all the listed buildings in Market Hill, Nos 1 to 8 Malting Lane, Stone Hall, and Nos 36 to 40 Nethergate Street, as well as all the listed buildings in Station Road.
