Description
Freebournes House is a building located at 3 Newland Street, originally constructed in the 16th century as a timber-framed and plastered house, but it was largely rebuilt in the 17th century. The house underwent renovations in the 20th century and is now faced in roughcast. It features cross wings at both the north-east and south-west ends and stands two storeys tall with a five-window range. The early 19th-century paired windows are double-hung sashes without glazing bars. The ground storey includes a modern shop window styled in early 19th-century fashion. The roof is tiled and has early 19th-century shaped bargeboards on the gables, along with an original large square brick chimney stack at the south-west end. Inside, there are some exposed beams and 17th-century panelling. Freebournes House is part of a group with the wall to the former house "The Grove" and includes Nos 2 to 12 (even), the stable to No 4, No 16 (Rosleyn House), Whitehall Cinema, and Nos 22 to 26 (even).
