Description
The road bridge over the River Stour on the Great Yeldham Road, built in 1813, is located approximately 84 yards south-east of the junction with Nethergate Street. This small cast iron bridge features three elliptical arches, with the date of construction cast at the crown of the central arch. The soffits of the arches are supported by cast iron ribs. The bridge's cast iron face is ridged above the arches, and it is infilled with brick up to road level. A plain cast iron railing with an oval handrail completes the design. This bridge was constructed just 34 years after the first cast iron bridge was built at Coalbrookdale in 1779.
