Description
The Old Laundry is a house located on Laundry Lane in Thornham Magna. It dates from the early 17th century, with possible earlier elements, and was altered and extended in the 19th century. The building features a timber frame with plastered walls and a thatched roof. It has a three-cell cross passage plan and stands two storeys tall.
On the ground floor, the entrance is situated to the right of the center and features a boarded architraved door. To the left, there are two three-light glazing bar casements, and to the right, a brick plinth with a small single light. The first floor has a mix of two and three-light casements. A ridge stack is positioned to the left of center between the hall and parlour, with an additional 19th-century stack on the front slope to the right, serving the service bay.
The right end of the building has two-light casements, a pentice board, 19th-century shaped brackets, and exposed purlins. The left end features a boarded door, a two-light casement, a pentice board, and exposed plates and purlins. At the rear, there is a boarded door located in the cross passage position, and behind the service bay, there is a short wing with a steeply pitched tiled roof. The interior has not been inspected. The building was formerly known as Spalding's Farm House.
