Description
Gull Lane Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th century or 17th century, which was converted into a cottage in the mid-18th century. It has a timber frame that is rendered and features a steeply pitched thatched roof. There is a central brick chimney stack from the 18th century. The cottage retains two bays of substantial timber framing up to the wall plate, with jowled posts, some bracing, and a cambered tie beam at the north gable end wall. The sole plate rests on a brick plinth. The southernmost bay has been extended by about one metre using lighter timber framing. Both bays have inserted floors, with a spine beam in the north bay and substantial lateral joists in the south bay. The roof has clasped purlins made from rough-hewn scantling and includes some earlier timbers. There is a lean-to addition from the 18th or 19th century on the north gable end, and a single-storey bathroom extension with a gabled pantile roof dating from the 20th century at the southeast corner.
