Description
Church Farmhouse is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century and further extensions and changes in the 20th century. It has a timber frame that is plastered and features a thatched roof. The house is designed with a three-cell cross passage plan and has two storeys.
On the ground floor, the cross passage on the left is now blocked, and there is a lobby entrance to the right of the centre, which is sheltered by a 20th-century pantiled porch. The windows are three-light glazing bar casements with hoodboards. The first floor has smaller three-light casements that are part opening and part leaded. There is a rebuilt axial ridge stack located to the right of the centre. The gable end features three-light casements, pentice boards, and exposed plates and purlins, along with an entrance on the left. At the rear, there are two and three-light casements and a 20th-century addition on the rear right.
Inside, the original layout included a service end, hall, and parlour, which have stop-chamfered axial binding beams, a chamfered mid-rail, and framing that has been concealed and altered. On the first floor, there are traces of a six-light diamond mullioned window. The roof structure includes collars clasping purlins over the hall and service bays, butt purlins over the stack and parlour bays, and reverse cranked windbraces throughout.
