Description
This is a house, now divided into two dwellings, dating from the early to mid 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is timber-framed and plastered, with a thatched roof. The house was originally built with a three-room lobby-entry plan. It has one storey and an attic. The main entrance is located to the right of the centre and features a boarded door set within a 19th-century architrave with a hoodboard, now partially hidden by a 20th-century timber porch. Windows include 1 and 3-light glazing bar casements with hoodboards, and a 2-light dormer window is centrally positioned. A ridge stack is located to the right of the centre, situated between the hall and parlour. The left, or service, end of the house has a boarded door towards the front, also with a timber porch. An external stack has been added to the rear, incorporating a pantiled oven outshut. Attic windows are 3-light casements. Exposed plates and purlins are visible on both gable ends. The rear of the building features clay lump and brick construction, along with pantiled and corrugated sheet-roofed lean-to additions. Internally, there is some exposed close studding, arched braces in the service end wall, stop-chamfered jowled storey posts and an axial binding beam in the hall, and a side purlin roof. Much of the timber frame is now concealed.
