Description
Ash Tree Cottage is a house that was formerly a public house, known as the Half Moon. It dates from the early 17th century and has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame with plastered walls and a steeply pitched black glazed pantiled roof. It has a three-cell cross entry plan and is one storey high with an attic.
The entrance is located to the left of the center in the cross entry position, featuring a half-glazed door set in a gabled porch that was added in the 20th century. The windows include two and three-light glazing bar casements with hoodboards, and there are two-light glazing bar gabled dormers located at the center and to the right of the building. There is an axial ridge stack to the right of center, positioned between the hall and parlour, with a rebuilt cap. The gable ends show exposed plates and purlins, and there is an architraved boarded door to the right.
At the rear, there is a boarded cross entry door and a lean-to structure made of brick and clay lump with pantiled roofing. Inside, the frame is concealed, but the jowled storey posts in the parlour are simply moulded. The cross axial binding beams are stop chamfered, and the joists are chamfered as well. The first floor was not inspected.
