Description
Chestnut Tree Cottage is a Grade II listed house, which was formerly known as Chestnut Cottages. It is believed to date from the 17th century and was likely built in two phases. The building has been altered in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered and has a thatched roof. Originally, it probably had a three-cell plan with an additional bay added to the right, but it now presents as a symmetrical four-bay lobby entry plan. The cottage is one storey high with an attic. The central door and the two-light casement windows are both from the 20th century, and there is an eyebrow thatched dormer. The axial ridge stack has been rebuilt. At the rear right, there is a lean-to outshut made of clay lump and covered with pantiles. Inside, the frame is concealed, but it includes stop-chamfered cross axial binding beams and cambered collars clasping purlins.
