Description

Priory Farm House is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with extensions from the 17th century and alterations made in the 20th century. It features a timber frame with roughcast exterior and steeply pitched pantiled roofs. The building has a three-cell lobby entry plan, with a kitchen and dairy wing added to create an L shape. It stands two storeys high with an attic in the main range. The entrance is located to the left of centre and consists of a six raised panelled door that is recessed and framed. The windows are 20th-century three-light casements. The house has a plinth and boxed eaves, with an axial ridge stack positioned to the left of centre between the hall and parlour, which has a rebuilt cap. The gable end features two-light glazing bar casements, and there is a 20th-century external stack at the right end. A lean-to addition is located behind the main range. The service wing at the rear right has boarded doors towards the front, with a ridge stack situated between the kitchen and dairy, and a boarded hay loft door at the rear gable end. Extending to the right from the dairy is a flint and brick outbuilding topped with a hipped pantiled roof.

Inside, much of the frame is concealed, but there is evidence of close studding, stop-chamfered storey posts, and binding beams. The first floor features indented ogee stop-chamfered axial binding beams from the 17th-century attic, arched bracing in the end walls, and an original diamond mullioned window opening that has been blocked by the service wing addition. The roof structure includes collars, clasp purlins, and arched windbraces.
